Trailer 3
Released26 minutes and 48 seconds of Grand Theft Auto VI, captured in-game on a PS5: a job that goes wrong, a rebuilt police system, the first working HUD, and a free-roam block that runs from the swamps to a rooftop bar called Effluvia.
What Rockstar showed
21-
26 minutes and 48 seconds, all of it in-game
Confirmed"Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" went up on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel at 9 p.m. Eastern on August 27 and on rockstargames.com/VI at the same moment, six hours after the Netflix premiere. The video runs 26:48, which makes it by a wide margin the longest single look Rockstar has ever published for the series. The Newswire post that accompanied it says the whole thing was "Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5" and calls it "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet". Every timestamp on this page is read off the official 4K file Rockstar hosts in its own downloads section, not off a stream.
-
The HUD, finally
ConfirmedThis is the first Rockstar video that shows the interface running, and it is worth describing precisely. Health sits top left as a thin segmented bar. Ammunition sits top right as two numbers, magazine and reserve, 36 and 268 during the getaway at 14:24, above a silhouette of the gun you are holding. The minimap is bottom left, a rounded tilted panel that draws buildings in 3D and lays a pink route line across them, with the distance to the objective printed above it. Contextual prompts appear bottom right in the same restrained style: "HOLD HANDS" on the rooftop at 10:00, "THROW" in the club at 17:40. After two trailers of pure cinematics, that plain furniture is what separates this from a trailer.
-
It opens mid-job, in a trap house
Spotted in trailerThere is no establishing shot. The video starts with Jason and Lucia walking into an apartment block at night to collect product for Boobie Ike, moving past a stairwell full of people who clearly live there, into a room where the product is being cut under a work lamp. A phone rings, the police come through the door, and the next four minutes are a running firefight through corridors and a kitchen with the HUD live on screen the whole way. Rockstar chose to open on the ordinary middle of a criminal week rather than on a skyline.
-
Jason and Lucia, swapped on the fly
Spotted in trailerPress who watched the presentation describe switching between the two protagonists as instant when they are working the same scene, with a wider camera move when they are apart. SVG and Dexerto both single it out: the pair share missions rather than alternate through them, and the one you are not holding keeps shooting, driving and taking part. The getaway at 14:00 shows it in one continuous stretch: Lucia at the wheel, Jason leaning out with a carbine, Raul Bautista in the back seat.
-
The police now track you, not your dot
Spotted in trailerGamesRadar reports a wanted system built around four icons for what the police actually know: your face, your clothes, your car, and the fact that Jason and Lucia are travelling together. Those four icons are visible in our own frames, sitting in a row of red discs directly under the star meter. Shaking a chase means invalidating some of that: swapping the vehicle, changing clothes, splitting up. Push Square adds that police no longer appear on the minimap at all and have to be found through a Focus mode, which elsewhere in the video highlights points of interest and mission openings.
-
Six stars, and this time we counted them ourselves
Spotted in trailerOn the day, the six-star reading came from GamesRadar, Beebom and Push Square while SVG's write-up of the same video described the familiar five, so we logged it as disputed. Having pulled the official 4K file, we can settle it: the meter has six slots. At 14:24 two stars sit dimmed at the left and four are lit; at 15:20 two are filled and four are drawn as empty outlines, which matches the reported behaviour that an outlined star means the police are searching without having confirmed a sighting. Rockstar has still put no number in writing, so this stays an observation rather than a spec, but it is our observation, off the official file, and you can check it at those two timestamps.
-
Effluvia: the rooftop bar where the work comes from
Spotted in trailerAt 10:00 Jason and Lucia come out of a lift onto a rooftop bar named Effluvia, a green-lettered sign over a living wall with the Vice City towers behind it. They walk in holding hands (the prompt on screen is "HOLD HANDS") and sit down with Brian Heder, the older man in the palm-print shirt, and Lori, the blonde woman across the table. The conversation is the framing device for the middle of the video: the jobs they discuss play out as flashbacks, including a convenience-store robbery in bandanas and a locker-rental job that ends badly.
-
Megamundo, and the job protecting Andrés de León
Spotted in trailerThe last act is a security detail. Jason and Lucia meet their employer in an airport lounge (press identifies her as Petra Navarro, COO of Megamundo) and then collect Andrés de León off a private jet at night. The building with MEGAMUNDO across its facade appears at 20:32, described in previews as the headquarters of a satirical TV channel. The party inside turns into an armed raid: Jason works the offices with a rifle while Lucia is cut off elsewhere, and at 23:52 he phones her mid-firefight, the call landing on screen as "Lucia: GUYS EVERYWHERE". Seconds later her own message reads "After Czr, he's in saferoom, 10+ guys, auto weps, explosives, sound military…".
-
Bayside, the swamps and the free-roam block
Spotted in trailerThe middle third is the state selling itself. A base jump over the Vice City islands, an airboat through green swamp water at 17:04, a bench press in a gym at 17:20 with the lift bound to timed trigger presses, a seafront track race at 17:44 with a lap counter and a running clock, a basketball hoop under a stilt house, jet skis, kayaks, dirt bikes, scuba diving, a gun range and a club floor packed with dancers. Dexerto's catalogue of the video adds mini golf, pool and car meets. A lot of it happens in Bayside, the waterfront district of shuttered storefronts, a pawn-style jeweller and a sign reading "Video Forever".
-
A robbery is a small job with a plan
Spotted in trailerConvenience stores and gas stations are shown as ordinary street crime rather than as set pieces: bandana up, gun out, till open, back door. Preview coverage collected by Vice describes the choice underneath that: blow the safe and it is fast but damages what is inside, work the combination and it is slower but you keep the full value, and every extra second raises the chance of officers surrounding the building. Many locations have a second exit for exactly that reason, and what you take goes to specialised fences.
-
Stealing a car is a job of its own now
Spotted in trailerVice's write-up of the same day's previews describes vehicles split into security tiers. A phone app called WAINK scans a car before you touch it and reports its value, its registration cost, whether it is locked, whether it has an alarm and whether it carries a tracker. Older cars open with a slim jim; modern ones need key-cloning gear that only unlocks later in the story. Some cars phone their position in automatically, so you either outrun the signal or dump the car. Deliver one damaged and it is worth less.
-
Money gates the story
Spotted in trailerThe same previews describe money mattering more to the campaign than in any previous Grand Theft Auto: certain chapters do not open until you have a specific amount, earned by stealing and selling cars, robbing businesses and running heists. Jason and Lucia can work a location alone or together, and doing it together feeds the relationship. Treat the specific numbers as unreported: nobody has published a figure.
-
Criminal Profile takes Honor's place
Spotted in trailerRockstar's replacement for Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor meter is described as a Criminal Profile, and the difference reported is that it does not sort behaviour into good and evil. It tracks patterns. Unnecessary violence and needless destruction on one side, clean and efficient jobs on the other, and those patterns change how people in Leonida react to you and how parts of the story develop. Push Square notes it goes as far as registering whether you put rubbish in a bin.
-
The relationship is a system, not a cutscene
Spotted in trailerJason and Lucia text each other between missions about what they are doing, and previews report that ignoring those messages often enough damages the connection. Time spent together, whether training, shopping, changing your look, sightseeing, or a job worked as a pair, improves it. The romance is optional and is described as a roleplaying choice with no mechanical bonus; the partnership holds either way. The "HOLD HANDS" prompt on the Effluvia rooftop is the smallest visible piece of that system.
-
The phone is an object, and Snapmatic is back
Spotted in trailerThe phone is handled as a physical thing rather than a menu. The camera moves in on the character's hand when it comes out. Snapmatic returns as the Instagram parody, though previews note Jason and Lucia do not post to it, being fugitives with a reason to avoid a digital trail; you browse, follow and read. A rideshare app called Ryde Me covers fast travel. At 18:24 a passenger livestreams a police chase from the car with a live viewer count and a scrolling chat rendered on screen.
-
Home, the fridge, the television and your own body
Spotted in trailerThe apartment sequence at 6:30 is domestic and unhurried: Lucia is on the bed, Jason takes a drink out of the fridge and puts the television on while he waits. The television is real content, not wallpaper. At 7:52 the screen is a commercial for a mounded ham sandwich, part of what previews call the largest collection of in-game advertising in the series. Hair can be shaved or trimmed at home while cuts and styles need a barber, and both characters visibly change shape with what they eat and how much they train.
-
The map is satellite imagery now
Spotted in trailerAt 19:00 the video opens the pause map, and it is not the flat road diagram the series has used since GTA III. Leonida is drawn as photographic top-down imagery: building roofs, pool decks, marina berths, the pattern of sand between beach umbrellas, with the road network laid over it. It is the clearest evidence in the video for how much denser this world is than Los Santos, and it lines up with the preview claim that Vice City alone is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's city.
-
Fourteen songs, and Phil Collins in a lift
Spotted in trailerSVG counted fourteen tracks across the presentation, from Birdman and Lil Wayne's "Pop Bottles" and Kodak Black's "Skrilla" to Depeche Mode's "People Are People", Def Leppard's "Love Bites", Prefab Sprout's "Cars and Girls" and Chimbala and Omega's "Se Me Nota (Agárrame)". "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins plays over a lift ride in the final act, which is the closest the video comes to a joke about its own tone.
-
What Rockstar did not say
RumorThree numbers travelled fast on the day and none of them came from Rockstar. A campaign of roughly 80 hours, a standard PS5 locked to 30 frames per second, and no first-person mode at launch all trace back to creators who attended a hands-off session at Rockstar North rather than to any official statement. Take-Two and Rockstar have published nothing on frame rate, camera modes or story length. We are listing them because they are everywhere, not because they are settled.
-
Three cars you can actually name
Spotted in trailerAlmost nothing in the Extended Look is legible at video resolution, which is why the car lists doing the rounds are guesswork. Pull the official 4K file and three badges resolve. The red convertible Jason drives through the free-roam block is an Übermacht Sentinel: SENTINEL on the boot lid at 8:48, the Übermacht roundel beside it. The dark saloon on the expressway at 13:00 is a Benefactor Schafter, badge on the left of the panel. And the same frame gives the Leonida number plate in full, LEONIDA over a stylised orange over SUNSHINE STATE, while the Sentinel wears an older design reading "Discover '78" over GLORIANA. Everything else in the traffic stays unnamed, and we are leaving it that way.
-
November 19, said twice
ConfirmedThe video closes at 26:36 on a card reading "NOVEMBER 19, 2026 / PRE-ORDER NOW", and the Newswire post repeats it in text: Grand Theft Auto VI is coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nothing in the presentation touches the date, the price or the editions.
