GTA 6 pre-load: when it starts on PS5 & Xbox, 212 GB
GTA 6 pre-load opens on 10 November 2026, nine days before launch: at midnight local time on PS5 and at 00:00 GMT worldwide on Xbox Series X|S. You need the digital version and up to 212 GB of free space. Pre-loading only gets the files onto the console: the game still unlocks on 19 November.
When pre-load opens
| PS5 / PS5 Pro | 00:00 on 10 November, local time: the further east you are, the earlier it opens. |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | 00:00 GMT on 10 November, the same moment everywhere. |
| Boxed copy | In shops from 12 November. The box holds a download code, not a disc. |
In the US, Xbox owners get the pre-load first: at 7 pm Eastern and 4 pm Pacific on 9 November. PS5 follows at midnight on the 10th. In the UK both consoles open at midnight.

How much space you need
Up to 212 GB depending on the console, Rockstar says, with no split by platform. That is about twice Red Dead Redemption 2, the biggest install Rockstar had shipped before. A Series S has 364 GB usable in total, so most owners will have to delete something first.

How to pre-load on PS5
- Buy or pre-order the digital edition in the PlayStation Store, on the account you play on.
- Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet: Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Without it the console does not download in rest mode.
- Open Game Library and select GTA VI. A countdown timer to release appears. Select it and check that the boxes next to the content are ticked: that means auto-download is on.
- Leave the console in rest mode. The download starts by itself at midnight local time on 10 November.
The game stays locked until midnight on 19 November in your store region, whatever the console clock says.

- Buy or pre-order the digital edition in the Microsoft Store, on the console or in the Xbox app.
- From 00:00 GMT on 10 November, open GTA VI in the Store or in your library and select Install.
A pre-downloaded Xbox game will not start before release. Microsoft has not shown an unlock time for GTA 6 on Xbox yet.

Boxed copy: no disc, a code
The boxed PS5 and Xbox editions reach shops from 12 November and contain a download code instead of a disc. Redeem the code on your console and the download starts, with the same up to 212 GB. On PS5, buy the box for your own account region: Rockstar says PS5 codes only redeem in the region of your platform account. Xbox codes are not region-locked.
