GTA 6 launches first on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version expected later. Consoles do not permit traditional mods, so launch-window earning will run only through Rockstar-sanctioned channels.
ConfirmedTake-Two's CEO has explained the console-first release strategy. Sony's and Microsoft's platform sandboxes block classic PC-style modding, so FiveM-style roleplay servers and deep mods are a PC-era phenomenon that arrives after the later PC release — not at console launch.

GTA 6 unlocks on PS5 at midnight local time in the region of your PlayStation Store account, in 15 waves spread over 19 hours: New Zealand first at 11:00 UTC on November 18, the United States and Canada at 05:00 UTC on November 19, Mexico and Central America last at 06:00 UTC. The times come from Sony's store listings; Rockstar has not confirmed them and Xbox timing is unknown.
RumorWe read the timestamps ourselves on 8 September 2026 on seven regional PlayStation Store pages for Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition (concept 10000730). New Zealand shows "18/11/2026 11:00 AM UTC", Japan "2026/11/18 03:00 PM UTC", Germany and Poland "18.11.2026 11:00 PM UTC", the United Kingdom "19/11/2026 12:00 AM UTC", Brazil "19/11/2026 03:00 AM UTC" and the United States "11/19/2026 05:00 AM UTC". Every one of them is 00:00 on 19 November in that store's local time (NZDT is UTC+13, JST +9, CET +1, GMT 0, BRT −3, EST −5), so the rule is midnight local, not a single global moment. The full table of 63 countries in 15 windows was compiled by GTAVice.net on 7 September and relayed by Vice, Stevivor and GTA BOOM; our seven spot checks matched their figures in every case. The 19-hour spread is a calendar accident: on 19 November the northern hemisphere has already left daylight saving time (the US on 1 November, Europe on 25 October) while New Zealand and eastern Australia are inside theirs, which is why Auckland runs 19 hours ahead of Mexico City rather than 18. Three limits keep this a listing rather than a fact. It covers the digital PS5 release only; Microsoft's store shows no comparable time and Rockstar has published none. Sony can change a store timestamp before launch. And the wave you get is decided by the store region of your account, not by where the console sits or what its clock says; Rockstar's own support FAQ ties code redemption to the account's region, as our 28 July entry on the nine PlayStation redemption groups explains, so a boxed code bought at home will not open a New Zealand account. What is official is the surrounding calendar: the 19 November date and pre-loading from 12 November, both announced by Rockstar in June.

The game is set in the state of Leonida, a fictional take on Florida, centered on modern-day Vice City. Official locations include the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
ConfirmedThe setting was revealed with Trailer 1 in December 2023. In May 2025, the official site update accompanying Trailer 2 added pages for Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.

The in-game map of Leonida is drawn as photographic satellite imagery instead of the flat road diagram the series has used since GTA III.
Spotted in trailerAt 19:00 the Extended Look opens the pause map and shows Vice City from directly above as a photographic image: building roofs, pool decks, marina berths and the pattern of sand between beach umbrellas, with the road network laid over it. Vice's collation of the same day's previews describes the map as using detailed satellite-style imagery in place of a basic road design. Rockstar has published no map image or map description of its own.

Grand Theft Auto VI is reported to carry more than 600,000 NPC animations, against roughly 55,000 in GTA 5, with characters individually art-directed rather than procedurally assembled.
Spotted in trailerThe figure comes from the wave of previews collected by Vice after the Extended Look, which also puts Red Dead Redemption 2 at around 300,000 for comparison. The same coverage describes a wider spread of heights, weights and body types, with animations adjusting to an NPC's size, and an interaction system that lets you greet, taunt, provoke or defuse the people around you. Bystanders notice being eavesdropped on, get uncomfortable if you follow them too long, and some of them carry weapons and start things without provocation. Rockstar has published none of these numbers.

Leonida is put at roughly twice GTA V's playable area and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, with Vice City alone about twice the size of Los Santos. The figures are attributed to Rockstar North's head of development but relayed by a creator, and Rockstar has published no map and no numbers.
RumorThe numbers now have a name on them. VGC traces the twice GTA V and three times Red Dead Redemption 2 comparison to Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, speaking during a preview session at the studio and relayed by the creator TGG, who saw around three hours of the game before the Extended Look. The same report carries a figure for the city itself, Vice City at twice Los Santos and, counting the surrounding suburbs, eleven times Los Santos and its surroundings, which sits awkwardly against a whole map only twice the size of GTA V's and is a good reason to keep this an estimate. Community mapping projects, rebuilding the state from trailers and screenshots, had already landed in the same range, and the wave of previews collated by Vice repeats it. The Extended Look supports the direction without settling the number: at 19:00 it opens the pause map and draws the state as photographic top-down imagery instead of a road diagram. Rockstar has released no map and no area figure, and nothing here comes from a Rockstar publication.

Whether Jason and Lucia go through the story as a couple or as accomplices is the player's choice, and the romance can be declined without breaking the partnership.
ConfirmedRob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, put it in exactly those terms to Famitsu on 2026-08-28: the story is built so the two have to cooperate in almost every situation, but acting as a couple or acting as accomplices is up to the player, and someone who would rather not touch that side can simply play them as partners. Depth is what gates the options. A relationship left undeveloped loses things like holding hands and kissing, and Nelson says the effort can be made later to win them back. The game shows a status for the relationship alongside the bank balance. Previews collected by Vice describe the texture around it, the two texting each other between missions about what they are doing, repeated dismissals damaging the connection and time spent together improving it. The Extended Look shows the smallest visible piece at the ten minute mark, a HOLD HANDS prompt as the pair walk onto the Effluvia roof.

Take-Two is selling GTA 6 as a single-player experience, and says nothing about a new GTA Online is coming soon.
ConfirmedOn Take-Two's Q1 fiscal 2027 earnings call on August 7, 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick said what the company is selling is a single-player experience, and that it does expect to support GTA Online going forward. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who interviewed Zelnick the same day, reported that Rockstar has not discussed what a new GTA Online will look like and is not planning to anytime soon. This is not a statement that GTA 6 ships without an online mode: the original GTA Online launched weeks after GTA 5 rather than alongside it, and Rockstar has confirmed neither a multiplayer component nor its absence. Rockstar's nopixel V announcement of 1 September 2026 does not change that picture: the post says nothing about GTA 6 and nothing about a new GTA Online, and PC Gamer, Insider Gaming and Destructoid all read the timing, eleven weeks before launch, as a sign that an official roleplay layer for GTA 6 is not close. Rockstar itself has drawn no such link.

The Criminal Profile grades what kind of criminal you are, professional or violent and dangerous, and that reading decides how aggressively Leonida reacts to you. It is not an honour meter.
ConfirmedRob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, described the system himself in an interview with Famitsu published 2026-08-28. It is the first time Grand Theft Auto tracks part of the player's behaviour, and his framing is deliberately not moral: the profile reads you as a professional criminal or as violent and dangerous, and that reading decides whether the people and the world around you turn aggressive. He rules out the Red Dead Redemption 2 mechanic it keeps getting compared to, because shop discounts pegged to an honour level read as a videogame rule, and he is explicit that the system is not there to punish anyone for playing the villain. His own example: rob a jeweller, shoot somebody in the process, then handle the rest cleanly and get away fast, and you still land nearer the professional end. The same interview says the wanted meter was rebuilt around Red Dead's rule that a crime has to be witnessed before it registers, and that stars climb slowly on purpose so the rating never feels punitive. Preview coverage collated by Vice adds that the system notices small things, down to whether you put rubbish in a bin.

Switching between Jason and Lucia is instant while they share a scene and takes a moment when they are apart, and the character you are not holding keeps acting on their own.
Spotted in trailerPush Square describes the swap as immediate when the pair are together and a few seconds long when they are separated, the way GTA 5 handled it. SVG and Dexerto both note that the two share missions rather than alternate through them: the one under AI control keeps driving, shooting and taking part. The Extended Look shows it in the bank getaway, with Lucia driving while Jason leans out with a carbine, and again during a parachute descent that cuts to Jason on the ground. Previews add that the pair keep a shared bank balance and a shared arsenal.

Police no longer appear on the minimap; a Focus mode is used to spot them, and the same mode highlights points of interest and mission openings.
Spotted in trailerPush Square's rundown of the Extended Look reports that officers have been taken off the minimap entirely, which removes the blip-watching that carried every previous Grand Theft Auto chase. Focus takes their place: hold it and the game surfaces what is around you, including police, collectible detail and places a job can start. Vice's collation of the same day's previews describes it as revealing nearby objects and helping with police evasion. Rockstar has not named or explained the mechanic in any published text.

The phone is handled as a physical object, Snapmatic returns as the social platform, and a rideshare app called Ryde Me covers fast travel.
Spotted in trailerPreviews describe the camera moving in on the character's hand when the phone comes out, rather than the phone being a flat menu. Snapmatic is back as the Instagram parody, though Jason and Lucia do not post to it, being fugitives avoiding a digital trail: you browse, follow and read. Ryde Me handles quick travel across Leonida. In the Extended Look at 18:24 a passenger livestreams a police chase from inside the car, with a live viewer count and a scrolling chat drawn on screen.

Money gates parts of the campaign, and robberies are built around a choice between getting out fast and taking more.
Spotted in trailerPreviews collected by Vice describe money mattering more to the story than in any previous Grand Theft Auto, with certain chapters not opening until a specific amount is in hand. Robbery locations turn on a decision: blowing a safe is quick but damages what is inside, working the combination is slower but keeps the full value, and every extra second raises the chance of police surrounding the building. Many locations have a second exit for that reason, and stolen goods go to specialised fences. No figures have been published for any of it.

Stealing a parked car is a multi-step job: a phone app scans it first, older cars open with a slim jim and modern ones need key-cloning gear unlocked later in the story.
Spotted in trailerVice's write-up of the previews describes vehicles split into security tiers, with a phone app called WAINK scanning a car before you touch it and reporting its value, the cost of registering it, whether it is locked, whether it has an alarm and whether it carries a tracker. Some cars report their own position automatically, so you either outrun the signal or abandon the car. Damage lowers what a fence pays, and vehicle fences also tell you which valuable cars are sitting in police impound lots. Rockstar has published nothing on the system.

The wanted meter in Grand Theft Auto VI has six star slots, and a row of four icons under it shows what the police actually know about you.
Spotted in trailerGamesRadar, Beebom and Push Square all read six stars off the Extended Look on the day it aired, while SVG's write-up of the same video described the familiar five. Reading the official 4K file Rockstar hosts settles the count: at 14:24 the meter shows two dimmed stars and four lit, at 15:20 two filled and four drawn as empty outlines, six slots either way. Under the meter sit four red icons for your face, your clothes, your car and the fact that Jason and Lucia are moving together, and losing a chase means invalidating some of them by changing vehicle, changing clothes or splitting up. Rockstar has published no number and no description of the system, so this is an observation off the footage rather than a specification.

Rockstar's own 4K release of the Extended Look measures as native 1440p holding a stable 30 frames per second, and Digital Foundry calls a 60 fps console mode extremely unlikely. Rockstar itself has still published nothing about frame rate, resolution or camera modes.
RumorDigital Foundry's breakdown, out 2026-08-28, is a measurement rather than a report. The official file renders at native 1440p with no dynamic resolution scaling, is lifted to 4K by a plain spatial upscale that leaves softness and aliasing, and holds what they call a relatively stable and well paced 30 fps with only very occasional single-frame drops. Ray-traced reflections and global illumination are there but noisy. Their verdict on a performance mode is that 60 fps is extremely unlikely on console hardware, because there is no way to recover enough GPU and particularly CPU time for a 16.7 ms update without compromising the world. Separately, VGC, Kotaku, Push Square and Tom's Hardware all report Rob Nelson saying consoles run the game at 30 fps during development and that a 60 fps option would need a conversation with the technical team, but that quote reaches print through a creator session and a machine translation, not a Rockstar publication, and Nelson's own Famitsu interview never touches frame rate. First-person is reported as absent at launch and a campaign of roughly 80 hours travels with the same wave, both without an official source. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has published anything on frame rate, resolution, ray tracing, camera modes or story length.

Take-Two is guiding investors to $8.0 to $8.2 billion in Net Bookings for the fiscal year covering the GTA 6 launch, up from about $6.7 billion the year before.
ConfirmedThe range is the company's own guidance, not final results. Take-Two reiterated it on August 7, 2026, alongside its first quarter of fiscal 2027 (quarter ended June 30, 2026), where Net Bookings of $1.39 billion came in slightly above its own $1.32 to $1.37 billion forecast while falling 3 percent year over year. CEO Strauss Zelnick tied the outlook directly to the November 19 release. Notably, the guidance was reiterated rather than raised, even though Zelnick called GTA 6 pre-orders unprecedented and said they had vastly beaten internal forecasts; the quarter contained only five days of the pre-order campaign, so it carries no pre-order revenue signal.

RumorAmpere Analysis released the numbers on 10 September 2026 and the games press picked them up the same day. What the firm actually measures: the six-hour Netflix exclusive on 27 August produced more than 100,000 US sign-ups over launch day, behind only the final instalment of Stranger Things and the Rousey vs Carano MMA card among this year's sign-up peaks, and ahead of almost every live sports event Netflix has streamed in 2026. Ampere's PlumResearch panel adds a second figure that is harder to game: more than 5 per cent of US users who had not opened Netflix in the previous 30 days came back and watched the Extended Look before anything else, a reactivation rate above any series or film on the service in the measured period. Katie Holt, senior research analyst, reads the deal as Netflix buying its way into gaming culture without owning any games; senior research manager Louise Wooldridge calls the window proof of a gaming event's pulling power. The rest of Ampere's argument is audience shape: 84 per cent of gamers watch YouTube monthly against 62 per cent for Netflix, 16 per cent of Netflix subscribers do not play games at all, and the Netflix base is 49 per cent male against 72 per cent of Grand Theft Auto fans. Two cautions before the number gets reused. It is US-only and it counts gross sign-ups rather than net subscriber growth, so it does not sit next to the 31.1 million global views Netflix reported on its own chart. And the unit of time is launch day, not the exclusive window, so headlines reading 100,000 in six hours are more precise than the data behind them.

UK PS5 sales rose 33% week-on-week and Xbox Series X|S sales 34% in the week of the GTA 6 Netflix showcase, according to Nielsen IQ figures relayed by The Game Business. The same week, Nintendo Switch 2 rose by about a third as well, and Switch 2 is not getting the game.
RumorChristopher Dring published the numbers on 3 September 2026: "According to Nielsen IQ, UK PS5 sales jumped 33% last week, while Xbox Series S and X sales leapt 34%." These are third-party retail panel figures, not sales reported by Sony, Microsoft or Rockstar, and they are week-on-week rather than year-on-year. The same piece notes that only one PS5 Pro model can be bought outright from Sony's own site, with almost every third-party retailer out of stock, so the ceiling that week was partly supply rather than demand. Two pieces of context keep the jump in proportion. First, the year it sits inside: UK console hardware to the end of July was down 14.4% year-on-year, with PS5 specifically down 32%, so one week at plus a third does not reverse the trend. Second, the confound, which is in Dring's own text and which the retellings dropped: "Nintendo Switch 2 also saw sales rise a third, ahead of the console's price rise this week." Nintendo confirmed on 20 August that the UK Switch 2 price went from £395.99 to £419.99 on 1 September, so buyers had a documented reason to move early on a console that has nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto. A week in which a machine without the game grows by the same third as the two machines with it is not a clean measurement of the showcase, which is why this sits as an estimate rather than a confirmed effect.

Analysts put GTA 6 pre-orders at roughly 4.5 million and credit Rockstar's Extended Look with only a couple of hundred thousand of them. The figures come from M Science and Sensor Tower, both modelling third-party storefront data. Take-Two has never published a pre-order count.
RumorTwo firms measured the same week, their headlines fought and their numbers did not. M Science, relayed by PC Gamer and picked up by RockstarINTEL on September 2, put the book above 4 million before the August 27 show and credited the show itself with a couple of hundred thousand units globally in the first few days. Sensor Tower, quoted across the same wave, had daily pre-orders up 436 percent on August 27 against the day before, a cumulative 4.55 million copies and about 446 million dollars gross, PlayStation on roughly 77 percent and close to 90 percent of buyers taking the Ultimate Edition. Line those up and the disagreement evaporates: a 4.55 million total that already contains a couple of hundred thousand from the premiere leaves a pre-show book in the low 4 millions, which is where M Science had it. A one-day jump of 436 percent that nets a couple of hundred thousand units also fixes the late-August baseline in the low tens of thousands a day, so the same Thursday reads as a record by daily rate and as a rounding error against a book of four and a half million. One number in circulation does not survive its own arithmetic. The pairing of 4.77 million pre-orders with 446 million dollars cannot hold at Sensor Tower's own edition mix: about 90 percent at 99.99 dollars and the rest at 79.99 blends to roughly 98 dollars a copy, and 446 million at 98 dollars is 4.55 million copies, not 4.77 million. What is not modelled is the share price. Take-Two closed at 235.39 dollars on August 28, at 219.70 on August 31 for a drop of 6.67 percent, then at 216.68 and 216.14 on September 1 and 2, handing back the whole reveal-week rally and about 3.6 billion dollars of market value in three sessions. The cause is contested and pre-orders are only one candidate: the financial press writing on August 31 pointed at the CyberLeek footage overhang and at a weak tape, with the S&P 500 off 0.5 percent and the Nasdaq off 0.4 percent that afternoon, while BofA kept a Buy rating and a 368 dollar target. No model here is Take-Two's own ledger. The company said on August 7 that it will not publish raw pre-order numbers, called the campaign unprecedented, and reiterated rather than raised its outlook of 8.0 to 8.2 billion dollars for the launch year.

About 89% of GTA 6 pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition, according to an estimate from analytics firm Sensor Tower. Rockstar and Take-Two have never published an edition split of their own.
RumorSensor Tower's Video Game Insights arm shared the breakdown with GamesIndustry.biz on August 13, 2026: 89% of pre-orders across both consoles, 88.5% on PlayStation and 90% on Xbox. Karl Kontus, the unit's SVP and general manager, put the normal premium-edition share at 10-20%, called 50% during pre-orders a great number, and said he had never seen a 90% premium share before. He expects the figure to drop, possibly toward an even split, because the marketing campaign has barely started and most pre-orders land in the final week before the November 19 launch, when less committed buyers arrive. These are modelled estimates built on third-party storefront data, not sales figures released by Rockstar. They run in the same direction as Strauss Zelnick's August 10 CNBC remark that pre-orders were skewing more to the premium edition, but Zelnick gave no percentage and credited the mix to the most avid fans ordering first.

Arion Kurtaj, the hacker behind the 2022 GTA 6 leak, is reportedly out of the secure hospital and faces a criminal retrial in November 2026, the month GTA 6 launches.
RumorBBC cyber correspondent Joe Tidy reports that doctors now deem Kurtaj fit to stand trial: released from the secure hospital where a court had held him indefinitely since December 2023, he is reportedly in prison awaiting a conventional criminal trial in November 2026. Kurtaj, then 18 and a member of the Lapsus$ group, broke into Rockstar in September 2022 and posted 90 in-development GTA 6 clips; Rockstar told the court the breach cost it $5 million. The report comes from a single named journalist, with no published court statement and no comment from Rockstar, so it stays a rumor until official confirmation.

GTA 6 Online is rumored to pay creators a share of revenue for user-generated content — following the Fortnite/Roblox model — and may let creators use their own IP or brand sponsorships.
RumorReported by VideoGamer citing industry insiders, and echoed by investment firm Konvoy, which predicts GTA 6 Online will adopt a creator economy like Fortnite's Creator Economy 2.0 (which pays creators roughly 40% via engagement payouts). No revenue-share terms have been confirmed by Rockstar.
