GTA 6 file size: how many GB on PS5 and Xbox
Rockstar has published no install size for GTA 6, and neither storefront lists one. What can be pinned down is the date the real number appears, and what Rockstar's own shipped games measured.
What Rockstar has actually published
Nothing about size. Rockstar's own GTA VI page carries no technical details at all, and PlayStation's product page lists the editions, the release date and a seven day pre-load for pre-orders, with no storage line anywhere on it. Every figure in circulation today is arithmetic done on other games.

When the real number appears
A pre-load has to declare its size before it starts downloading, and the pre-load window opens seven days ahead, which puts the answer around 12 November 2026. Rockstar has done this in public once before: the Red Dead Redemption 2 install sizes went up on 18 October 2018, eight days before that game shipped. Those numbers are still the best yardstick there is.

How much room you actually have
The number on the box is not the number you get, because both platform holders reserve a slice of the SSD for the system. On Series S that leaves the tightest budget of the three by a wide margin.

Can it live on an external drive?
On PS5 the answer is no: a PS5 game can be parked on a USB drive, but it has to be copied back to the internal SSD before it will run. Xbox works the same way with one exception, the Storage Expansion Card, which behaves like the internal drive and plays straight off the card. So cold storage on USB is fine for everything except the game you actually want to launch.

How many GB is GTA 6?
Nobody outside Rockstar knows yet. No official size has been published and no storefront lists one. For scale: the largest install Rockstar has shipped was 107 GB for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox One, and the current GTA V sits at roughly 87 GB on both current consoles.
When will the GTA 6 file size be announced?
Most likely when pre-load opens, seven days before the 19 November 2026 release, so around 12 November. Rockstar confirmed the Red Dead Redemption 2 sizes eight days ahead of that launch, which is the closest precedent available.
Will GTA 6 fit on an Xbox Series S?
The Series S has 364 GB usable, so a 150 GB game fits, just not alongside much else. Series S owners should expect to uninstall something or add a Storage Expansion Card.
Can I install GTA 6 on an external hard drive?
You can store it there, not play it there. Both PS5 and Xbox require current generation games to run from the internal SSD, and the Xbox Storage Expansion Card is the only add-on that counts as internal.
