Sony gives GTA 6 a 300-inch theater at Tokyo Game Show, but nothing to play

Japan's PlayStation.Blog laid out Sony's Tokyo Game Show plans on 10 September, and Grand Theft Auto VI gets a room of its own. The PlayStation booth will run a theater called Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look: the 27 August showing on a 300-inch screen, with Sony's floor haptics shaking the floor in time with the picture and the sound. Anyone who sits through it walks out with a T-shirt. The show runs 17 to 21 September at Makuhari Messe, two days for the trade and three for the public.

Nobody gets to play the game there. Sony named four titles playable at the booth: Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Marvel's Wolverine and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Grand Theft Auto VI is not among them, and there is nothing to book: Japanese PlayStation Plus subscribers claimed slots for those four until 16 September, and the rest of the tickets go out at the venue. The theater has nothing new in it either. It is the same film Rockstar put on Netflix and YouTube on 27 August, and it runs 26 minutes 48 seconds, not the half hour it often gets called. The T-shirt comes in size L only, one per visitor, while supplies last.

For Sony this is the third push of the month. It revealed two limited DualSense controllers in the game's colours on 3 September, pre-orders for them took down the PlayStation Store on 10 September, "It Happens on PS5" boards went up across Tokyo, and now there is a room at Makuhari built around a Rockstar video. None of it buys exclusivity: GTA 6 arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November, the same day. Sony is paying to stand next to the biggest release of the year, and all Rockstar had to hand over was a file it had already published.
