The pause map
HeistAtlas illustration — not actual game art

At 19:00 of the Extended Look the pause map opens and Leonida is drawn as photographic imagery seen from above, with the road network laid over it, instead of the flat road diagram the series has used since GTA III.

A photograph with roads on it

The frame shows Vice City from directly above: building roofs, pool decks, marina berths and the pattern of sand between beach umbrellas. Vice's collation of the same day's previews describes the map as satellite-style imagery in place of a basic road design.

  • Photographic ground instead of flat colour blocks
  • Roads drawn over the imagery, not instead of it
  • It doubles as the clearest measure of the map's scale so far
  • Rockstar has published no map image of its own
