HeistAtlas illustration — not actual game art

Fighting in GTA 6 asks for inputs where the older games played an animation. Grapples are broken by tapping, counters and disarms sit in a short window, walls take rounds and stop stopping them, and a drive-by leans the whole upper body out of the window.

Melee rebuilt around inputs

Spotted in trailer

Previews describe hand to hand as a rebuild rather than a tune. Being grabbed starts a struggle you break by tapping, and a short window opens for countering an attacker or disarming them outright. Standing behind an isolated target gives a silent takedown. The point is that fights ask for something instead of playing out on their own.

  • Tap to break a grapple
  • A short window to counter or disarm
  • Silent takedown on an isolated target

Cover that stops being cover

Spotted in trailer

Cover carries blind fire, but the surfaces respond: rounds punch through walls and tear visible patches out of drywall, and glass shatters as the fight goes on. Enemies coordinate over radios, so a takedown that goes wrong pulls more of them in rather than staying local.

No health or armour numbers, no damage model, nothing about aim assist or lock-on, and no description of how the ammo economy works beyond the counter visible in the corner of the Extended Look.

Grapples are broken by tapping, a short window lets you counter or disarm an attacker, and standing behind an isolated target gives a silent takedown.

Is there a cover system in GTA 6?

Yes, with blind fire, and it is not permanent: rounds go through walls and drywall visibly tears up during a firefight.

How do drive-bys work in GTA 6?

The shooter leans their whole upper body out of the window with a rifle rather than holding a fixed pose, as seen in the bank getaway.
