Nintendo on GTA 6 for Switch 2: ask Take-Two and Rockstar

Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has answered the Switch 2 question about Grand Theft Auto VI for the first time, and the answer is a shrug. In an interview with Variety published on 9 October she was asked whether the game is coming to the console. Her reply: "That's going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time."

Pritchard did not say that the Switch 2 can run GTA 6, although the quote is often reported that way. The line about the console having "the horsepower" belongs to Variety's question, not to her. She said nothing about hardware, and she neither confirmed nor ruled out a port. Rockstar and Take-Two have never mentioned a Switch 2 version, and nothing has changed on their side: GTA 6 launches on 19 November on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version is still unannounced too.

The rest of the interview explains why the question keeps coming up. Switch 2 has sold more than 23 million units since June 2025, Variety reports, and Nintendo's own big November release, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, lands on 5 November, two weeks before GTA 6. Rockstar's recent games have skipped Nintendo hardware: neither GTA V nor Red Dead Redemption 2 came to Switch, as Kotaku points out. For now the Switch 2 remains the one current console without GTA 6 on its calendar.
