The GTA 6 Extended Look is out: 26 minutes and 48 seconds, captured on a PS5
Rockstar put the full "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" on its YouTube channel and on rockstargames.com/VI at 9 p.m. Eastern on August 27, six hours after the Netflix premiere, and the running time everyone spent the week guessing at came out at 26 minutes and 48 seconds. The Newswire post published alongside it is four sentences long and does its work in one of them: the whole presentation was "Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5", and Rockstar calls it "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet".
The thing that makes this different from the first two trailers is visible in the first minute of open-world footage: there is a HUD on screen. The minimap sits bottom left as a rounded, tilted panel with a pink route drawn across it, a north marker on the rim and the distance to the objective above it, reading "1.11 mi" in one of the drives. Race segments put a lap timer in the corner. Two trailers of cinematics later, that plain interface is the signal that Rockstar is showing the game rather than a cut of it.
The police are the biggest single change reported out of the video. GamesRadar describes a wanted system organised around four icons for what the police actually know about you: your face, your clothes, your car, and the fact that Jason and Lucia are moving together. Losing a chase means invalidating some of that, so swapping the vehicle, changing clothes and splitting up all become tools. Push Square adds that officers no longer show up on the minimap at all and have to be spotted through a Focus mode, which elsewhere in the video highlights points of interest and mission openings.
One number is worth holding at arm's length. GamesRadar, Beebom and Push Square all read a six-star wanted meter off the footage, which would retire the five-star ceiling that GTA 5 kept for twelve years. Rockstar has stated no number anywhere, the count comes from squinting at a HUD element, and SVG's write-up of the same video describes the familiar five-star system. Until Rockstar says it out loud, we are logging it as a disputed observation rather than a spec.
The rest lands as expected but with detail. Switching between Jason and Lucia is instant while they share a scene, and the one you are not holding keeps shooting and driving. Cars can be taken quietly with a shim or loudly through the window. The free-roam stretch runs through a base jump over the Vice City islands, kayaking in the canals, a race along the seafront, dirt bikes, boats, a packed club floor, a gym and a gun range, with Dexerto also cataloguing basketball outside Jason's house, mini golf, pool and car meets. Convenience stores and gas stations get robbed as ordinary street crime rather than as set pieces.
Two practical notes. The YouTube upload is age-restricted, so it asks you to sign in and confirm your age, while the copy on rockstargames.com/VI plays without an account. Rockstar has also dropped the full video and 70 screenshots into the official downloads section of the site, which is where the frames in our breakdown come from.
The video ends on a card reading "NOVEMBER 19, 2026 / PRE-ORDER NOW", and the Newswire post repeats it in text: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, no change to the date, the price or the editions. Our full shot-by-shot breakdown, with the frames and the sourced status of every claim, is on the Trailer 3 page.
