Game Informer puts GTA VI on its cover with 14 pages of Rockstar interviews

On 25 September Game Informer revealed the cover of its issue 382, and it is Grand Theft Auto VI. The magazine says the 14-page cover story is built on interviews with several lead designers at Rockstar and comes with 12 screenshots nobody has seen before. The digital edition opens on 29 September in the Game Informer app. Print copies reach subscribers and newsstands in the following weeks, in the US and in more than 50 other countries.

The cover itself is original artwork by Rockstar. Jason and Lucia sit in a red convertible in front of the Vice City skyline at sunset. He holds a pistol up by his shoulder, she wears a red bandana and rests a second pistol on her lap, and an open bag of cash lies in the footwell.

The story is about Leonida rather than the plot. Its author, senior associate editor Marcus Stewart, grew up in South Florida and says he asked Rockstar about three things the studio has never shown: a weather system that reproduces Florida's less sunny side, wildlife on land, in the air and at sea, native species and otherwise, and how the team researched Miami and Florida to make the state feel real. The details are held for the issue; the cover reveal only names the topics.

For Rockstar this is a familiar move. GTA V got the same treatment in December 2012, an 18-page Game Informer cover story published almost a year before that game came out. This time the gap is seven weeks: GTA VI ships on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so the issue will be the first sizeable batch of new material since the Extended Look on 27 August. Rockstar has not announced the issue on its own Newswire; the news came from the magazine.
