Rockstar sells a $399.99 GTA VI collector's box without the game

Rockstar opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State - Vice City Collection on 24 September, announcing it on Newswire and listing it on the Rockstar Store at $399.99. It is a limited box of eleven souvenirs, and the game is not in it. The store page says so directly: Grand Theft Auto VI is sold separately.

The set is built around Macca the Gator, which Rockstar now calls "Leonida's hit TV show". The centrepiece is a 6-inch Macca figure with a stash compartment in the base. Around it sit Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses, a New Era 9FORTY snapback, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a Macca magnetic mirror, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, a swizzle spoon, a razor blade keychain, nine enamel pins in a metal tin and stickers in a stash bag. The last item is a double-sided poster with a map of Leonida on the back.

The terms are strict. The store limits the box to one per person, stock lasts "while supplies last", and shipping is paid separately. Nothing leaves the warehouse before 19 November, the day the game comes out. In the UK the price is £349.99, according to GamingBible.

Macca has been in the game's material since June, when the Ultimate Edition named Goodtime Gear, a clothing brand with the alligator as its mascot. The box adds a second role: in Leonida he is also the star of a TV show. For buyers the practical point is simpler. Rockstar still sells exactly two editions of the game, Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99, and this box is a third purchase on top of one of them.
