Why the number matters

Spotted in trailer

The figure comes from the wave of previews after the Extended Look, and its point is not the digit: it is that bystanders stop being wallpaper. The same coverage describes NPCs noticing being filmed, reacting to what you do and carrying animations matched to their size.

  • 600,000+ animations reported, against roughly 55,000 in GTA 5
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 is put at around 300,000 for comparison
  • Characters art-directed individually rather than procedurally assembled
  • You can greet, taunt, provoke or defuse the people around you

Treat the figure as press, not spec

Rockstar has published no animation count. The number is repeated across the preview wave rather than sourced to the studio, so it belongs in the same box as any other unofficial figure.
