Miami-Dade signs a $3.9 million GTA VI ad package with Rockstar

Miami-Dade County has signed a GTA VI marketing and advertising package worth $3.9 million, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced in a county press release on 28 October. The money flows to the county, not from it. The package combines an agreement between the county and Rockstar Games with separate ad buys through the media companies that sell space at Miami International Airport and on the county's transport network.

The plans include themed lighting at the airport and at PortMiami, displays on the walkways that link the airport garages to the terminals, and wraps on selected traffic signal cabinets across the county. Rockstar pays to install, maintain and remove everything, and every design still needs county approval under its content guidelines. The total also counts the earlier $975,000 deal behind the "Welcome to Vice City" display on the roof of the Kaseya Center. That money goes to the long-planned park at Dan Paul Plaza behind the arena. "These agreements allow us to turn that excitement into additional revenue for our community," the mayor said.

It is a turnaround from September, when the same county published a statement by a commissioner and the sheriff that ended with "Miami-Dade County is not Vice City." The release says nothing about renaming the airport, the idea that drew that backlash. The cities of Miami and Miami Beach have closed their own deals: temporary banners downtown and ads on beach concession equipment. Rockstar has not commented. GTA VI launches on 19 November.
