Xbox says GTA 6 won't stream to PC at launch

Xbox says Grand Theft Auto VI will not be streamed to PC, and that it has no exclusive streaming rights to the game. Matthew Ball (chief strategy officer at Xbox) posted this on X on the night of 6 to 7 October: "the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."

Ball was answering a report from The Verge published a few hours earlier. Tom Warren (senior correspondent at The Verge) wrote, citing sources, that Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma had told staff at an all-hands meeting that Microsoft was preparing something around GTA VI that "no other platform holder is doing". According to Warren, the teaser was about exclusive cloud streaming rights at launch. After Ball's post The Verge added a correction: the deal is not exclusive and does not cover PCs.

Some things are still open. Ball did not say whether Xbox Cloud Gaming will stream GTA VI to consoles, phones or anywhere else. He only confirmed that the game launches on Xbox on 19 November. Rockstar and Take-Two have not commented. The Verge also reminds readers that from November Microsoft caps cloud play at 15 hours a month on Game Pass Ultimate, 10 on Premium and 5 on Essential.

For players the practical answer is short. There will be no way to play GTA VI on a PC at launch, not even through the cloud. The game comes out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a PC version has still not been announced.
